The Hunger Project Malawi has called on Malawians to plant trees during the tree planting season.<\/p>\n
Hunger Project has so far planted over 80,000 trees in Ngwenyama Village in the area of Traditional Authority Symon in Neno District.<\/p>\n
Hunger Project Vi c e Chairperson, Rosemary Mhema, said it is everyone\u2019s responsibility to plant as many trees as possible in order to cope with climate change challenges.<\/p>\n
Mhema said the wanton cutting down of trees in the country, mainly due to charcoal burning, has not only left mountains bare, but culminated in serious problems.<\/p>\n
She cited problems such as floods, soil erosion and power outages.<\/p>\n
Mhlema, therefore, urged Malawians to take care of trees they plant.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most important thing is that Malawians should stop blaming the government for problems created by themselves. People should have a spirit of ownership,\u201d Mhlema said.<\/p>\n
Project Officer for Hunger Project, Thandiwe Nowa, who is under Lisungwi Agriculture Extension Area, hailed traditional leaders for encouraging their subjects to plant more trees.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most interesting thing is that, when there are no rains, the people water the trees,\u201d Nowa said.<\/p>\n
