{"id":41228,"date":"2017-02-23T08:28:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T06:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=41228"},"modified":"2017-02-23T08:28:23","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T06:28:23","slug":"giants-for-a-bonanza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/02\/23\/giants-for-a-bonanza\/","title":{"rendered":"Giants for a bonanza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four Super League teams are planning to hold a bonanza before the kick-off of the Super League season in April.<\/p>\n<p>One of the organisers, Be Forward Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, confirmed the development.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, said the bonanza was at a mere concept stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a workshop on Domestic Player Transfer System at Chiwembe Technical Centre involving general secretaries from all 16 Super League teams,\u201d Butao said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, therefore, took advantage of the workshop to discuss the idea of a bonanza targeting four giants, Nyasa Big Bullets, Kamuzu Barracks, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers. We all expressed interest in taking part in the bonanza. We will continue discussing and come out in the open when the time is ripe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the bonanza was aimed at preparing teams for the forthcoming season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe talked about using Bingu National Stadium, Civo Stadium or Kamuzu Stadium so that money from gate collections can cushion some of the problems facing our teams. We can use some of the cash to settle outstanding balances with players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Silver General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, confirmed to have been part of the talks for the bonanza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to Football Association of Malawi (Fam), the league starts in April, we therefore, need to be active before the kick-off. This will also help us measure our level of preparedness for the league,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n<p>Kamuzu Barracks are the league\u2019s defending champions while Bullets finished as the runners-up to the soldiers in the 2016 season.<\/p>\n<p>Silver finished third while Wanderers claimed sixth position.<\/p>\n<p>Domestic football has not had much joy with bonanzas as they usually end controversially.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said they would review to see how best to proceed with the bonanzas.<\/p>\n<p>The last Luso Bus Ipite Bonanza saw Wanderers threatening to sue Fam due to the then perceived reluctance of Luso Television to pay for the repairs of a bus prize which the Nomads won in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>The bus broke down while in transit to Blantyre.
