Local netball lovers will have a chance to follow Malawi Queens at the Netball Diamond Challenge in South Africa on SuperSport 4.<\/p>\n
The four-member competition would take place at the Ugu Sports Centre in Margate on the KZN South Coast from June 16 to 19.<\/p>\n
MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, confirmed the development saying Queens\u2019 supporters would follow the proceeding of the tournament live.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey can catch Africa\u2019s Malawi top netball team (The Queens) at the Netball Diamond Challenge in South Africa. The action will be on SuperSport 4 and SuperSport HD as the Queens battle with Africa\u2019s best netball teams, South Africa, Zambia and Uganda,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Queens are expected to depart tomorrow for South Africa to take part in the Netball Diamond Challenge.<\/p>\n
In the opening fixture, Queens will face Uganda on Tuesday before facing continental rivals South Africa the following the day.<\/p>\n
Queens will then date neighbours Zambia on Wednesday. Top two teams are expected to fight for the championship with the runners-up battling in the third place play-off.<\/p>\n
As we went to press, Queens coaches were yet to release the travelling squad.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Netball South Africa (NSA) says this year\u2019s Diamond Challenge was unique because the four participating teams would also take part in the Netball World Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very excited that the Diamond Challenge is back,\u201d said Netball South Africa (NSA) chief executive Blanche de la Guerre.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was last played in 2013, but we have entered a partnership with KwaZulu Natal Sport, and they will help to finance this tournament. In return, we will assist with netball development programmes in KZN.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said Margate had been chosen for the tournament because there was great interest in netball in the Ugu district, which is the area around Margate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tournament matches will be played in the evenings, and in the daytime, provincial players will hold netball clinics for senior schoolgirls in the area,\u201d said De la Guerre. \u201cWe will also hold clinics for technical officials and umpires during the Diamond Challenge,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
South Africa and their main African rivals, Malawi, are old hands at the NWC, but this year\u2019s World Cup in Sydney will be a second for Uganda and Zambia.<\/p>\n
