As the Flames begin their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification project today against Zimbabwe, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has called on the corporate world to partner the association in mobilising resources to ensure that the Flames have a successful campaign.<\/p>\n
Fam president, Walter Nyamilandu, said this while observing that corporate support was pivotal to the success of the national team.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have already seen the national team making strides one year after Carlsberg came in to sponsor the Flames. The Flames have already won a medal in Cosafa and they are one of the big teams in the Cosafa region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also had good preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers by staying in camp for a long time and playing a lot of friendly matches. All this is because of Carlsberg\u2019s support. We already exhausted our funds, but with Carlsberg\u2019s sponsorship, we were able to start playing the qualifiers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nyamilandu added that other players in the corporate sector should come forward and support the Flames.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have already seen the fruits of good sponsorship. What if we get more sponsorship? Our dreams of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations finals regularly would become a reality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Carlsberg Malawi Limited\u2019s Senior Brands Manager for Alcoholics, Twikale Chirwa, said they were impressed with the progress the Flames have made since the company made a commitment to sponsor the Flames with K250 million for three years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking forward to more success in the future. We are hopeful that the Flames will qualify for the 2017 finals in Gabon. We urge all stakeholders to play a role in helping the Flames succeed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
