Mafco can breathe a sigh of relief next season as they would welcome back eight key players who were in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on a peace keeping mission.<\/p>\n
The returnees are expected to fill the void left by the departure of top forward Richard Mbulu to Mozambican club Costa do Sol.<\/p>\n
Mafco outgoing Chairperson, Richard Chagonapanja, disclosed that the eight players might be registered in absentia.<\/p>\n
The players are expected to return from the DRC in May, just some weeks into the new season. The new season kicks-off in April.<\/p>\n
“We will discuss the issue with the technical panel but definitely we will register them. They are quality players who can help the team compete for trophies, “Chagonapanja said.<\/p>\n
The Salima-based soldiers will welcome back Kalisto Kalinda, Martin Masoatheka, Maurice Chiumia, Jimmy Mzunga, Hassan Chapola, Alfred Nyondo and Frank Kasiyamo.<\/p>\n
If Kalinda and Masoatheka will be fit, they can fill the void left by the departure of Mbulu.<\/p>\n
However, Chagonapanja admitted that the club was finding it tough to get a player of Mbulu’s quality.<\/p>\n
“The search is still on for his replacement but, honestly, it is not easy because Mbulu is a top class striker,” he added.<\/p>\n
Mafco Head Coach, Thomas Maloya, also admitted that the club will miss Mbulu whose combination with Joseph Dosa caused plenty of problems to many Super League teams.<\/p>\n
Mbulu, who recently signed for Costa do Sol in Mozambique, finished as the TNM Super League top scorer last season with 19 goals. He also won Presidential Cup Golden Boot Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
