Following the floods that have hit some districts of the country, Airtel Malawi has provided some relief to the affected communities by donating K10 million to the Malawi Red Cross Society.<\/p>\n
The donation will enable the society provide emergency shelter, blankets, food items, cooking kits and sanitation materials to over 2,000 affected households in the hardest hit districts of Salima, Lilongwe and Ntcheu.<\/p>\n
Symbolically handing over the cheque at Airtel\u2019s Headquarters on Tuesday, Airtel\u2019s Corporate Communications Manager, Norah Chavula-Chirwa said that Airtel was concerned by the loss of life and property in the affected areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that through our donation, Malawi Red Cross, will bring some comfort, and will help the affected families and communities rebuild their lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chavula-Chirwa also called on Airtel subscribers to donate towards the efforts being undertaken by Malawi Red Cross, Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) and other relief organisations.<\/p>\n
She said that the company has also reopened the Airtel Money \u2018Ndife Amodzi\u2019 140 donation hot line in a bid to materially and financially assist people affected by the floods.<\/p>\n
\u201cAirtel Money customers can hence donate any amount by accessing selecting \u2018Pay Bill\u2019; Option 7 \u2018Other\u2019 and on Nickname, type \u2018ndifeamodzi\u2019 with the Reference \u2018140\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Receiving the donation, Red Cross Society\u2019 Head of Health Programmes, Gloria Kunyenga hailed Airtel for responding to the society\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cAirtel\u2019s swift response has come at the most critical phase in disaster relief. This donation will help people access basic needs, and contain diseases in displacement camps. Such a donation will go a long way in ending the suffering of the victims,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
