Nyasa Big Bullets\u2019 Head of Commercialisation, Malinda Chinyama, has once again insisted that the People\u2019s Team\u2019s forthcoming Executive Committee elections are irrelevant and retrogressive.<\/p>\n
The former Bullets\u2019 chairperson said the polls would interfere with the team\u2019s commercialisation dream.<\/p>\n
An annual general meeting held in Zomba last Saturday resolved that the elections should be held at a date and venue which the club\u2019s trustees will determine.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we find partners to assist the club it means that they will recruit an administrator and an accountant. Why then should we go to the polls and elect a general secretary and a treasurer?\u201d Chinyama insisted.<\/p>\n
\u201cSupporters need to understand that the sponsors and other partners cannot trust someone who gets instructions from people who voted for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two guys will have to be answerable to the partners and the board of trustees. This, therefore, means that we only need a chairperson and executive members drawn from all the country\u2019s regions so that the team is represented nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chinyama, who is a Bullets\u2019 trustee, said supporters and stakeholders need to be sensitised on commercialisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people think that when we talk about commercialistion we mean selling the team. But that is one way of transforming the team into a registered company that even some of us may not be involved in future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeanwhile, our sponsors have already pledged that they are ready to buy a Marcopolo Bus worth K120 million for the team if we go commercial.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, the idea against the elections received strong opposition during the AGM as supporters said the team\u2019s status should continue.<\/p>\n
Chairperson of the board of trustees, James Busile, also supported calls for the elections.<\/p>\n
