Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) will launch its strategic plan at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on Friday.<\/p>\n
The plan was developed with input from the country\u2019s sports associations in November last year at a two-day workshop in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Minister, Henry Mussa, will be the guest of honour at the ceremony.<\/p>\n
MOC Administration Manager, Naomi Chinatu, said the plan will replace another that ran from 2013 to last year.<\/p>\n
She said the plan aims at developing and promoting sports excellence, olympism and olympic education within the olympic and commonwealth spirit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe plan promotes fun and targets the identification and nurturing of sports talent through innovation, ethical people skills and team spirit within a clean sporting environment,\u201d Chinatu said.<\/p>\n
She said the plan is governed by fundamental moral principles of right human conduct that identify the country\u2019s sports sector as credible and acceptable members of society.<\/p>\n
Chinatu explained that the plan reflects the sports sector\u2019s concern about protection of the environment from destruction and pollution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that the environment is the primary influence on intellectual growth and cultural development,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chinatu said the plan is driven by the will to win, the desire to succeed and the urge to reach full potential in sports development.<\/p>\n
The plan focuses on governance, sports development, marketing, communication, organisational service delivery, olympic legacy and financial sustainability.<\/p>\n
The launch comes ahead of calls for the country to start preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.<\/p>\n
Malawi has never produced qualified athletes for the global event and has been sending competitors on solidarity.<\/p>\n
Five athletes represented the country in athletics, swimming and archery at the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.<\/p>\n
