In its quest to give up-and-coming local netballers exposure, Mary Waya Netball Academy will in October host Saint Jones International School from the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
The academy\u2019s founder, Mary Waya, on Monday confirmed that they will host the English side in test matches in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Waya said the visiting team comprises Under-19 players.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to give our players a feel of playing international teams,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The netball legend added that she had embarked on a talent identification programme ahead of the English team\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n
In line with the talent identification, Waya will launch a project called Netball Leadership.<\/p>\n
The aim of the project, Waya said, was to transfer knowledge from the academy\u2019s coaches to children.<\/p>\n
Waya said her academy will also capitalise on the forthcoming Blantyre City Mayor\u2019s Trophy to identify Under-16 and 19 netballers.<\/p>\n
The academy is currently imparting netball skill in various schools in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thank the District Education Office [Blantyre] for according the academy an opportunity to empower girls in various schools with netball skills,\u201d Waya said.<\/p>\n
She cited Australian-based Mwawi Kumwenda and England-based Joyce Mvula as examples of how netball can take people to greater heights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
