South Africa-based Malawian hip-hop artist, Aemo E\u2019face, has signed a two-year record deal with Universal Music Group South Africa.<\/p>\n
Aemo E\u2019face in an interview described the development as a breakthrough.<\/p>\n
\u201cUniversal Music Group does not sign individual artists like me but, rather, signs record label deals. I\u2019m the first Malawian artist to be signed and this is a great development not only to me as an artist but to the country as well because people will get to know that there is also talent in Malawi,\u201d Aemo E\u2019face said.<\/p>\n
The\u2018 Second to Breath\u2019 hit-maker said the record deal is subject to extension.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will extend it depending on how successful I will be after the two years,\u201d Aemo E\u2019face said.<\/p>\n
Aemo E\u2019face said talented artists from Malawi are overlooked on the international scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of talent here [in Malawi]; the only thing we lack is a platform that can expose us beyond Malawi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Aemo E\u2019face believes he was signed because he raps about things that really matter to the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnlike other rappers, who rap about money, women and sex, I rap about things that really matter; that is, life in general\u2014 because I come from a poor background myself. So, I believe Universal signed me because they found my music refreshing. It hasn\u2019t been easy to get to where I am,\u201d Aemo E\u2019face said.<\/p>\n
Aemo E\u2019face started his music career in 2006 after he was evicted from the then E-wallet music show.<\/p>\n
He released his first album, Close, <\/em>in 2010.
