Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President, Walter Nyamilandu, has cautioned players of newly-promoted TNM Super League sides to resist the temptation of rushing to sign for big clubs.<\/p>\n
A former player, Nyamilandu said such players risk \u201crotting\u201d on the technical bench of such giants.<\/p>\n
Nyamilandu said it was sad to note that when a player gets praised for his performances at the team he was promoted with, he becomes pompous–\u2013feeling that he can easily deliver on the bigger stage.<\/p>\n
But he said such players become mere bench-warmers after making a switch to the bigger teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn football, passion for the game is what drives a player forward. If you go for money, that money cannot make your career but can only destroy it. So do not go to a big club unless you are assured that you will stand the pressure and of course, competition for a starting place,\u201d Nyamilandu said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have seen good players who were heroes in their previous clubs, but because they allowed money to be their major motivating factor, they are currently rotting on the bench. So be careful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nyamilandu, therefore, called on the players for Blantyre United, Masters Security and Chitipa United to make their clubs proud first in the 2017 Malawi\u2019s top-flight campaign before joining other teams.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the development, Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) vice-President, Felix Msiska, concurred with the Fam leader.<\/p>\n
\u201cNowadays, whenever a player is spotted, he starts misbehaving. So instead of taking it step-by-step, they start associating themselves with names of foreign players.
