Police in the Central Region have urged residents of Mtsiriza and Mtandire to support police officers as they perform their duties.<\/p>\n
Central Region Police Commissioner, Clifford Bandawe, made the appeal on Saturday during a confidence building meeting they had with the community.<\/p>\n
In December last year, some irate residents of Mtsiriza burnt a vehicle from Lingadzi Police Station when the officers went to perform their duties in the area.<\/p>\n
Bandawe said the meeting was crucial in as far as their working relationship with the community is concerned.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to rebuild confidence between members of the general public and the police. We want to erase what happened and revert to the cordial relationship we had with people of Mtsiriza and Mtandire. For us to perform our duties well, we need their support,\u201d Bandawe said.<\/p>\n
Group Village Chigoneka assured the police officers and other stakeholders present at the meeting, that leaders in the area will put in place measures to avoid a repeat of the December 2016 incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very disappointed with what happened. We need security in these two areas. That can happen if we have good working relationship with the police. We will talk to our children. After the incident, we have been struggling to get the services of the police. That incident will not happen again,\u201d Chigoneka said.<\/p>\n
Community Policing Regional Executive Committee Chairperson, Edson Jere, said his committee will work with people from the two areas in improving security.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to make Mtandire and Mtsiriza the best places, the most secure places for people. We will work with leaders of the two areas so that there is change,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
