{"id":40240,"date":"2017-02-06T10:41:40","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T08:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=40240"},"modified":"2017-02-06T10:41:41","modified_gmt":"2017-02-06T08:41:41","slug":"sparc-supports-cancer-screening-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/02\/06\/sparc-supports-cancer-screening-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Sparc supports cancer screening campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I<\/strong>CT firm Sparc Systems says cervical cancer, which is currently killing more women in the country is preventable hence the need for corporate partners to assist the health sector in screening and treating women across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This was said when the company presented K500,000 to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Chatinkha Ward, for a three day screening and treatment exercise in Ngabu, Chikwawa.<\/p>\n<p>The exercise was organised jointly by QECH, Blantyre Round Table and Banja La Mtsogolo.<\/p>\n<p>Sparc Systems Technical Sales Manager, Alena Chiwaya, said a higher population of Malawian women is in business; hence they contribute positively towards the economic growth of the country.<\/p>\n<p>She said it is, therefore, important to save the lives of these women in order to keep our economy afloat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCervical cancer is preventable and as Sparc System, we would like to see lives of our women being saved, so that they continue contributing to the growth of our economy,\u201d Chiwaya said.<\/p>\n<p>She further called upon private sector players to contribute towards the screening exercise as part of their corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government alone cannot provide all the social needs of Malawians, the private sector has a role too to play, by giving back to the communities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the donation, a representative of the organising team, George Chilinda, said cervical cancer is killing more women in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>He said currently cases of cervical cancer are very high in referral hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are receiving a lot of patients from Chikwawa and Mulanje hence targeting is the two districts. The project screening and managing the disease,\u201d Chilinda said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, said the only setback they are facing is lack of funding to reach out to many women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunding is a huge problem. The exercise we are carrying out at the moment, we had targeted to reach out the whole of Chikwawa District, but due to lack of funds, we will only manage five health centres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore appeal to companies to emulate the good example of Sparc System and help us in our project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICT firm Sparc Systems says cervical cancer, which is currently killing more women in the country is preventable hence the need for corporate partners to assist the health sector in screening and treating women across the country.
