Be Forward Wanderers have threatened to \u2018dismantle\u2019 Silver Strikers following reports that they have lured the Nomads\u2019 seasoned midfielder, Joseph Kamwendo, who has resigned unilaterally.<\/p>\n
Wanderers\u2019 General Secretary, Mike Butao, Thursday said he was aware of Silver\u2019s players whose contract obligations have not been fulfilled and are also expiring, hence the Nomads can pounce on that. Wanderers and Silver share blue colours.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur three players have complained that they have been approached by Silver. They are ready to testify before Super League of Malawi and Football Association of Malawi [over player-tapping],\u201d Butao claimed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is out respect that we are not hitting back. We can dismantle their team. Their players have also been approaching our supporters that they want to join us. If Silver are not careful, we can sweep clean their entire squad in the next two years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The two teams found themselves on a collision course after Wanderers signed from Silver free agent, Lucky Malata. Silver General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda vowed to hit back.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda, a lawyer, yesterday said he was misunderstood on Kamwendo, adding that \u201cthe fact that we showed admiration in him does not mean that we are interested in him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey [Wanderers] also believe that I might have authored Kamwendo\u2019s resignation letter,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is strange as there are over 300 lawyers in Malawi. I don\u2019t know where this hullabaloo is coming from. After all, there is a precedent. Kamwendo has, before, terminated contracts with other clubs such as TP Mazembe [the Democratic Republic of Congo] and in Denmark [with Nordsjaelland].\u201d<\/p>\n
The Silver spokesperson laughed off Butao\u2019s threats, saying he was building castles in the air and that Wanderers do not have the financial muscle to buy Silver players.<\/p>\n
Despite being contracted to Wanderers, the well-travelled Kamwendo tendered his resignation letter on Tuesday, saying he wants to be closer to his ill mother in Mchinji District.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour office is very much aware that some contractual obligations between me and Be Forward Wanderers club were not met. The club did not fulfil some of its statement and promises that were duly signed for by both parties in the contract,\u201d reads part of the letter terminating the contract by \u2018mutual\u2019 consent.<\/p>\n
