Even though Malawi ranks low on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) services, the demand for its services is surprisingly high in neighbouring countries and beyond.<\/p>\n
ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) said Malawi has people who are skilled and well conversant with ICT.<\/p>\n
Ictam President, Wisely Phiri, said due to the outside demand, most companies and individuals are now migrating to other countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you are aware, Ictam is currently in the Comesa [Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa] Business Council, which means our views as Malawi in terms of ICT are being heard at regional level.<\/p>\n
\u201cApart from that, as an association, most embassies are now writing us requesting references for Malawian ICT companies whose services are needed in foreign land,\u201d Phiri said.<\/p>\n
He further said, as an association, they will strive to take ICT in Malawi to another level.<\/p>\n
Phiri said this is in line with the government goals hence the association is committed to working hand in hand with the government.<\/p>\n
\u201cCountries such as Rwanda have developed economically through ICT and this is what we intend to do here in Malawi.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are currently working hand in hand with the government to encourage our youths to come up with innovations that can benefit the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Phiri said apart from advising the government on ICT issues, the association will also be working with innovators who have just graduated from college, to come up with unique innovations that can sell on the international market.<\/p>\n
Last year, the association organised innovation awards, where 10 innovators were awarded for coming up with innovations that have made an impact locally.<\/p>\n
The innovations were in various categories that included finance, health and agriculture among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
