Mzuzu City hopes to have its maiden Twin City \u2013 Dallas of United States of America (USA)\u2014following the visit of the Africa Liaison for the latter, Regina Onyeibe next week.<\/p>\n
The Daily Times <\/em>has gathered that the visit is being facilitated by Malawians in Texas Organisation (Mito), a grouping of Malawians living in the USA.<\/p>\n Her visit to Malawi is at the invitation of Mito Chairperson Agnes Nkhata who is currently in the country on a mission trip.<\/p>\n According to the itinerary, Onyeibe will pay a courtesy call to officials at the Mzuzu City Council (MCC) on January 27, where sister city initiatives will be top of the agenda.<\/p>\n As a liaison for the city of Dallas, Onyeibe is tasked with building relationships between the city and the African continent, particularly the 48 sub- Saharan African countries.<\/p>\n MCC spokesperson, Karen Msiska, confirmed the development yesterday, saying there is a lot for Mzuzu to benefit from her visit<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWe expect the interaction to hand us an opportunity to learn how we can improve service delivery and management of a wide range of aspects, including health and sanitation.\u201d<\/p>\n Onyiebe is also responsible for promoting the city\u2019s newly designated EB-5 Programme in the 48 countries.<\/p>\n The EB-5 Programme is an arrangement that offers qualified foreign nationals job-creating investment opportunities in return for legal residency in the USA.<\/p>\n \u201cShe will also hold meetings with business captains in Mzuzu to explore potential EB-5 initiatives, by initiating business partnerships between those in the two cities and creating room for investment in the city, we expect to enhance revenue generation,\u201d Msiska added.<\/p>\n As a city still in its infancy, Msiska said MCC officials envisage benefits in the area of infrastructural development with structures that will beautify the city.<\/p>\n Mito organised the visit as part of its mission to promote economic and professional linkages between communities in Malawi and the US, thereby strengthening relationships between local communities and those in the Diaspora.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Mzuzu City hopes to have its maiden Twin City \u2013 Dallas of United States of America (USA)\u2014following the visit of the Africa Liaison for the latter, Regina Onyeibe next week.
