{"id":39490,"date":"2017-01-23T10:38:02","date_gmt":"2017-01-23T08:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=39490"},"modified":"2017-01-23T10:38:04","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T08:38:04","slug":"cadecom-unhappy-with-climate-change-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/01\/23\/cadecom-unhappy-with-climate-change-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Cadecom unhappy with climate change response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (Cadecom) in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe has said it is not amusing that many Malawians are not taking part in activities aimed at mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Cadecom\u2019s Director of Commissions and Industries, Father Henry Zulu, has said it is sad to note that what a good number of Malawians know better is cutting and not replenishing trees.<\/p>\n<p>Zulu said this on Friday during a tree planting exercise in Mseche Village in Traditional Authority (T\/A) Chimutu in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>He said the country is continuously facing climate change-related challenges due to rampant deforestation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is high time Malawians started loving their country. The spirit of just cutting down trees carelessly results in environmental degradation which in turn results in low water tables. I am urging all Malawians to take a leading role in conserving the environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that God has blessed us with rains. We are hoping that the trend will continue. However, most of you might be surprised that the past years we received insufficient rains.
