The Daily Times <\/em>has been noticing the mayor, his deputy and Chief Executive Officer putting on torn gowns during council deliberations.<\/p>\n During Monday\u2019s mayoral polls, the majority of councillors were seen clad in the worn out attire.<\/p>\n The Chief Executive Officer Mcloud Kadammanja was seen handling the gown carefully when he dressed Alexander Mwakikunga after the latter\u2019s triumph as deputy mayor.<\/p>\n Commenting on this, Church and Society Programme of Livingstonia Synod of Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Executive Director, Moses Mkandawire, said it does not make sense that the council is failing to buy new gowns for the councillors despite claiming that they have improved in their revenue collection.<\/p>\n \u201cI also noted the torn gowns, but if I will use the acceptance remarks by Councillor [William] Mkandawire, the council will have new gowns. These old ones are obviously destroying the reputation of the city to some visitors who pay courtesy calls to the mayor when they are in the city.<\/p>\n \u201cLet us Malawians try to maintain good reputation of our country by rectifying some simple problems that later become big in the eyes of our visitors who bring forex to the country,\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n However, MCC spokesperson, Karen Msiska, said the council observed that challenge and added that new gowns are in transit.<\/p>\n \u201cWe appreciate the fact that these gowns have been in use for quite a long time. That is why we are handling the production of new ones as a matter of urgency.<\/p>\n \u201cThe gowns are being worked on at the moment and we are very hopeful that the process will complete as soon as possible.
