The creative industry has for a long time longed for recognition and decoration through well organised and red carpet awards.<\/p>\n
At the moment, the only awards that artists look forward to are the Urban Music Party (UMP) spearheaded by Nde\u2019feyo Entertainment and the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Innovations Awards.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, awards that target all musicians are almost non-existent, which is why a group of young people namely James Makunje, Googs Maganga, Ken Gunz and Mathambo Lowole have created what they are calling Nyasa Music Awards.<\/p>\n
Nyasa Music Awards will be held every year and that the first one will take place in April 2017.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy the way, we did not just wake up and say \u2018let\u2019s bring in Nyasa Music Awards\u2019. We hatched this idea long time ago and we were just targeting the right time and that time is now,\u201d Maganga said.<\/p>\n
The team said it has generated its own funds for the awards.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the capacity and have generated our own funds for the awards but the door is open for sponsors. Having more partners will be a blessing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not new; all of us have been active in the industry and decided to put our brains together. We want to cover the gap that is there by introducing proper awards as well as promoting artists in the country,\u201d Mathambo said.<\/p>\n
For instance Mathambo brought into the country DJ Cleo while Makunje, who owns Club 15 in Mandala, brought in Zahara.<\/p>\n
Mathambo said Nyasa Music Awards, whose name is derived from Nyasaland, are designed to cover all ages.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still making consultations. As f o r nominations and voting, we will outsource the services. With what we have, we want decorate our artists and add value to their CVs[curricullum vitae ],\u201d Googs said<\/p>\n
Mathambo said that they were not here to compete with other awards on the ground but to support them as well as do it for the creative industry.<\/p>\n
According to the team, the awards will have 15 categories, including Best Gospel Artist, Best Male Artist, Best Producer and Best Video.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
