Business person Lefnos Chigamula has increased Central Region Pool League (CRPL) sponsorship from K750,000 to K1 million this year.<\/p>\n
He announced the increase during a prize presentation for the just-ended season on Sunday in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Chigamula said despite several challenges, the season was a success.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am really impressed with the progress of the league. I promise my full support so that we can take the sport to another level,\u201d Chigamula said.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, Fresh Air were crowned champions after collecting 117 points followed by Queens Park on 115 points.<\/p>\n
Special Brew National Champions, Siege, came third with 111 points.<\/p>\n
Nalero and Yankho finished fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n
For being champions, Fresh Air pocketed K300, 000 plus a trophy whereas Queens received K200, 000.<\/p>\n
Fresh Air also won the Zero Degrees Annual Pool Tournament and pocketed K75, 000 plus a trophy.<\/p>\n
CRPL Chairperson, Franco Banda, hailed Chigamula for his continued sponsorship to the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an exciting pool league and the players were excellent throughout the season. The league also exposed many talented players and we are grateful to the sponsor,\u201d Banda said.<\/p>\n
But Banda issued a stern warning to teams against forfeiting points next season, saying they will be expelled from the league.<\/p>\n
According to Banda, many teams failed to honour away fixtures last season due to lack of resources.<\/p>\n
