President Peter Mutharika has challenged Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Nicholas Dausi, to champion cyber-security and protect Malawi from cyber-crimes.<\/p>\n
Cyber-crime is committed using a computer and the internet to steal a person\u2019s identity or sell smuggled goods or stalk victims or disrupt operations with malicious programmes.<\/p>\n
Mutharika told Dausi that his ministry must lead Malawi into the digital age as the generation is fast becoming a digital generation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis development needs to be encouraged but balanced with discipline and an ethical culture. You are the Minister that must champion cyber-security and protect Malawi from cyber-crimes. Malawi is becoming an ICT [Information and Communications Technology]-driven economy but that comes with its responsibilities. I renamed your ministry to its present name to refocus on this ICT mandate. So, you have a big job,\u201d Mutharika said.<\/p>\n
Dausi said he will work to bring sanity in the ICT sector and will ensure that there is security for the people who use internet.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will come up with measures that will ensure cyber-security,\u201d Dausi said.<\/p>\n
The computer may be used as a tool in financial crimes, sale of illegal articles, pornography, online gambling, intellectual property crime, e-mail spoofing, forgery, cyber defamation and cyber stalking.<\/p>\n
It may also be a target for unlawful acts such as unauthorised access to computer, computer system or computer networks and theft of information contained in the electronic form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
