{"id":38669,"date":"2017-01-09T09:43:26","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T07:43:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=38669"},"modified":"2017-01-09T09:43:27","modified_gmt":"2017-01-09T07:43:27","slug":"hockey-team-camps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/01\/09\/hockey-team-camps\/","title":{"rendered":"Hockey team camps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Hockey National Team has resumed camp training in Blantyre ahead of the President\u2019s Cup to be held in Tanzania next month.<\/p>\n<p>Team Manager, Chikondi Mbawala, said he was happy with the composition of the team, which is training at the National Hockey Stadium next to Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe teams we had in the past were composed of mostly expatriates, but the current team is wholly made up of local Malawians. This is good for the future of the sport in the country,\u201d Mbawala said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, admitted that the absence of the expatriates had deprived the team of more experienced players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving more locally grown players ensures that the game is here to stay,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He attributed the absence of expatriates to Hockey Association of Malawi\u2019s new rule that the team\u2019s players should have a Malawian passport.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi will participate in the President\u2019s Cup in Arusha, Tanzania from February 19 to 26 at Twigas Club.<\/p>\n<p>The cup is open to men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams ranked eighth and below in Africa, and whose national associations are properly affiliated to the International Hockey Federation.<\/p>\n<p>The cup will act as a qualifier for the Africa Cup for Nations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Hockey National Team has resumed camp training in Blantyre ahead of the President\u2019s Cup to be held in Tanzania next month.
