Three Malawi Defence Force (MDF) clubs, competing in the TNM Super League, have congratulated Kamuzu Barracks (KB) for becoming the first military side to win the league title.<\/p>\n
KB were crowned champions after collecting 61 points from 30 matches with defending champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, finishing second on 60 points.<\/p>\n
Before KB\u2019s amazing run in the just-ended season, Moyale held the record of being the best MDF side in the elite league after achieving two second place finishes.<\/p>\n
Red Lions, Moyale and Mafco\u2019s coaches said KB\u2019s exploits have inspired them to aim at winning next season\u2019s championship.<\/p>\n
Moyale Coach, Collins Nkuna, congratulated the Lilongwe-based soldiers for defying the odds to become champions.<\/p>\n
\u201cKamuzu Barracks started the league on a very bad note. They never looked like championship material in the first-round. But they picked themselves up and surprised everyone with great results until they won the league,\u201d Nkuna said.<\/p>\n
Lions\u2019 mentor, Mike Kumanga, also hailed KB.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a time when Mafco looked like they had the title in the bag but they slipped up. Kamuzu Barracks raised their game and proved that they had the character to represent all of us from the MDF. They have done it and we are all very proud of them,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Mafco Coach, Thomas Maloya, said KB\u2019s victory tells a success story of the entire MDF family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are our brothers and we join them in celebrating the historic win. We were also close to winning, but we messed up a few games towards the end of the season. We will come with guns blazing in the new season to emulate the example set by our fellow soldiers,\u201d Maloya said.<\/p>\n
MDF spokesperson, Paul Chiphwanya, said MDF will maintain and support all the four teams in the top-flight league.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that we have won the league title for the first time, we will do all we can to keep it. All our four teams have the capacity to win it and we will give them all the support to ensure that the title is kept within the confines of MDF,\u201d Chiphwanya said.<\/p>\n
MDF Commander General, Griffin Supuni Phiri, flew by helicopter to Dwangwa to witness the crowning ceremony of KB.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
