Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) Presi\u00addent, Kezzie Msukwa, has faulted the Northern Region Chess Association (NRCA) for failing to take the sport seriously.<\/p>\n
Msukwa said this af\u00adter he realised that the region\u2019s chess governing body does not have a con\u00adstitution.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new committee has to quickly look at the constitution to avoid prob\u00adlems in future. The current constitution is a mere du\u00adplication of the Chessam constitution. The only difference is that where there was Chessam, there is NRCA, and that is bad,\u201d Msukwa said.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks after NRCA elected its of\u00adfice bearers for the next two years.<\/p>\n
The elections, howev\u00ader, were nearly disrupted after delegates differed on who was supposed to vote, saying there was lack of evidence on their eligibility.<\/p>\n
Some delegates wanted the region\u2019s every chess player to vote, but others insisted that only those registered with their clubs were eligible.<\/p>\n
After 30 minutes of disagreement, the Ches\u00adsam leader intervened and ruled that only players, whose names were rec\u00adognised by the national chess umbrella body, would vote.<\/p>\n
During the elections, Stanley Mtuwa was voted as the region\u2019s Chairper\u00adson after defeating Isaac Mumba, who was seeking re-election.<\/p>\n
Former general secre\u00adtary (GS), Kelusi Mhan\u00adgo, ascended to the vice- Chairmanship unopposed, with Robert Ngwira and Boniface Mwakikunga grabbing the General Secretary and Treasurer\u2019s posts, respectively.<\/p>\n
Msukwa then called on the new committee to find means of generating funds, saying Chessam has only received an an\u00adnual funding of K800, 000 from the Malawi National Council of Sports.<\/p>\n
In his acceptance speech, Mtuwa vowed to iron out the constitutional anomalies.<\/p>\n
