Veteran artist, Giddes Chalamanda, who last year fulfilled his dream of visiting the United States of America (US), has said he will never forget the day he gave an American beggar $5 during his memorable tour.<\/p>\n
\u201cNdidathandiza munthu ndi $5 m\u2019dziko la America. I thought poverty was endemic in Malawi but I witnessed suffering first hand in America],\u201d Chalamanda told patrons to Edgar ndi Davis and Giddes Chalamanda show at Premier Lodge in Blantyre.<\/p>\n Chalamanda said it will take a long time for him to forget that moment, adding that his trip last year taught him that suffering is everywhere.<\/p>\n Chalamanda\u2019s trip to the U.S. is not the first air trip in his life.<\/p>\n He said, contrary to people\u2019s perceptions that he had never boarded an airplane, he has been to Germany twice.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, it was not the first time for me to board a plane. By the way, the other thing you may wish to know is that I used to compose English songs in the 1970s, but I stopped after some people told me that, \u2018This is Malawi. Why are you singing in English\u2019.
