In their last international match, Malawi, who were earlier expected to host Botswana then South Africa, lost 2-0 in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Commercial and Marketing Director, Limbani Matola, stated that the decision to have the match free was to give fans a festive season treat.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Women\u2019s National Team has not played at home in four years. But also this is also first international match in Lilongwe in two years. So, we urge fans to come in large numbers and support the team as it takes a bigger step of bouncing back on the international scene,\u201d Matola said.<\/p>\n
Ranked 123 in the world and 22 in Africa, Malawi hope to claim their first ever win against Zambia since 2012.<\/p>\n
Malawi last defeated Zambia 4-2 at Kamuzu Stadium, before losing 7-0 in the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in Lusaka.<\/p>\n
Malawi Coach Stuart Mbolembole has said the team was confident ahead of the match.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe girls are in the right frame of mind and we hope the fans will watch a good game. Zambia is a good side but we can beat them at home,\u201d Mbolembole said.<\/p>\n
Malawi will pin their hopes on Sweden-based forward Tabitha Chawinga, Linda Kasenda and Sungeni Msiska.<\/p>\n
Zambia Women\u2019s National Football Team Head Coach, Enala Simbeye Phiri, has selected a strong squad comprising Anita Mulenga, Happy Pinto, Misozi Zulu, Ireen Lungu and Judith Zulu.<\/p>\n
