Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has told district governors who wrote President Peter Mutharika asking him to fire Regional Governor for the North, Kenneth Sanga, to leave the party if they do not want to work with the current regional leadership.<\/p>\n
The party also says it will discipline its members who signed the letter arguing the party has realised that the names appearing on the list are not real governors on the party\u2019s official 33 governors in the region.<\/p>\n
DPP National Campaign Director, Jappie Mhango, said this in an interview on Sunday at a Christmas party he hosted for his constituents at Lura Trading Centre in Rumphi North.<\/p>\n
However, Nkhata Bay South, South East District Governor, Francis Matengeni, said the party should first concentrate on rectifying the problem than firing its own people.<\/p>\n
Mhango who is also Minister of Transport and Public Works said the regional committee together with his office in the party is working tirelessly to put proper structures at grassroots to strengthen the party in the region while some \u2018fake\u2019 governors are busy pulling them down.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike in any other family, you will find some differences somewhere but the most important thing is that when such happens, you come together and resolve the matter because we are one family let us all work hard to strengthen the party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Matengeni said the party is ignoring the calls of the governors who mean well for the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not think it is wrong to speak against something which is wrong. We wrote the letter because we want change for the better of our beloved party,\u201d Matengeni said.<\/p>\n
However, Social Commentator, Moses Mkandawire said asking governors to leave the party or disciplining them is not a solution to the problem.<\/p>\n
Mkandawire said political parties should learn to hear the voice of both majority and minority if the country is to achieve mature democracy.<\/p>\n
\u201cDemocracy is [about] tolerance, understanding and [demands that you] act positively on issues within your organisation. DPP should call the governors and solve the matter amicably. Any negative action will have negative implication for the party,\u201d Mkandawire said.<\/p>\n
On his part, Sanga, who also attended Mhango\u2019s Christmas celebration, said he is ready to talk with the disgruntled governors and resolve their disagreements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
