{"id":37793,"date":"2016-12-21T12:11:47","date_gmt":"2016-12-21T10:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=37793"},"modified":"2016-12-21T12:11:48","modified_gmt":"2016-12-21T10:11:48","slug":"kwathu-drama-group-winds-2016-with-new-play","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/12\/21\/kwathu-drama-group-winds-2016-with-new-play\/","title":{"rendered":"Kwathu Drama Group winds 2016 with new play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kwathu Drama Group returns to the stage with a new production titled <em>Chaulere. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is the group\u2019s second production in the year 2016, coming after <em>Mwatilakwira<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The play, which was co-written by the group\u2019s veteran actors Eric Mabedi and Charles Mphoka, will first be staged at Muloza Lumbuli Trading Centre Hall in Mulanje on Saturday before the climax at Blantyre Cultural Centre on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Kwathu\u2019s spokesperson, Bon Kalindo, commonly known as Winiko in the comic circles, said in a press statement the popular group wanted to launch the play but the plans were shelved due to the death of comedian John Nyanga alias Izeki.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIzeki played a crucial role in uplifting Kwathu Drama Group to where it is and the group is still at pains with his death,\u201d Kalindo said.<\/p>\n<p>Kalindo said having postponed the launch of <em>Chaulere <\/em>on July 6, they set October 15 as the launch day\u2014 only to postpone it again following the death of another renowned actor Jacobs Mwase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving gone through this difficult period, we are ready to launch this new production. Kwathu is here because of the support people continue to give us and we hope they will welcome us once again and we are optimistic they will love the production,\u201d Kalindo said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kalindo, <em>Chaulere <\/em>is about a girl, named Chaulere. She is brought up and educated at an orphanage run by Roman Catholic Sisters.<\/p>\n<p>He said Chaulere\u2019s mother was mentally disturbed and was known as Anjira. She was a dedicated Catholic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough mentally disturbed, Anjira never missed morning mass. But, to the surprise of everyone, Anjira got pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl known as Chaulere. The question is, who made Anjira pregnant?\u201d Kalindo said.<\/p>\n<p>Kalindo further said that the play raises a lot of questions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Chaulere know that her mother was a mentally disturbed woman? Who took Chaulere to the orphanage? There is no secret under the sun. Long at last the truth is known but how does Chaulere take it? There is more to this play,\u201d Kalindo said.<\/p>\n<p>Kalindo called on people to come in large numbers to watch the production which is the last for the year 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Kalindo and Mphoka, other actors starring in the play include Linda Chatha, Emma Chikwembeya, Enifa Chiwaya, Evans Mbewe, Moses Mandebvu and Mussa Penoh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kwathu Drama Group returns to the stage with a new production titled Chaulere.
