Chitipa United Football Club is intending to sign at least three experienced players in an effort to beef up their squad ahead of prospective promotion to the top flight TNM Super League.<\/p>\n
The team is leading the 20-member Northern Region Football Association Simama League with 85 points from 34 games with Kaporo Stars lying second having collected 75 points from 35 games.<\/p>\n
This means that the league leaders need just three points from their remaining four games to lift the championship and eventually earn promotion to the top flight league next season.<\/p>\n
Chitipa United General Secretary Marshall Mwenechanya said his team needs a deep squad to stand the scorching heat of the Super League.<\/p>\n
He admits that the team has a very youthful squad, adding that any failure to add players who have Super League experience will be a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery game we will be playing from now will be like a Super League preparation. But it is also important that we bring in at least two or three players \u2013 experienced ones to biff up the current squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the team will not change its technical panel because the current squad has played for so long together and bringing in another coach may disturb the team spirit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He, however, said that the team is yet to secure stable sponsorship to fund its traveling costs in the Super League.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a Mzuzu-based pundit, Elias Gomile, has commended the team on its plans, saying it is good for a new Super League team to have a blend of both experienced and inexperienced players.<\/p>\n
He advised the team to find a reliable means of generating resources, saying the idea of relying on well-wishers for funding will not help matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey must find a sponsor who will not fail them. They will be travelling long distances from Chitipa to Blantyre, for example, so they must plan well.<\/p>\n
\u201cOtherwise, they will be sailing through financial difficulties which will eventually affect the team\u2019s performance,\u201d Gomile said.<\/p>\n
The team certainly has players with the potential to make it big in the league and in the national team with prolific goal poacher Abel Mwakilama making it to the Malawi National Under 20 team\u2019s first eleven during the just-ended Cosafa Youth Championship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
