{"id":37627,"date":"2016-12-17T07:47:22","date_gmt":"2016-12-17T05:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=37627"},"modified":"2016-12-17T07:48:10","modified_gmt":"2016-12-17T05:48:10","slug":"mayors-trophy-finals-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/12\/17\/mayors-trophy-finals-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayors\u2019 Trophy finals on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Organizers of the Blantyre City Mayors\u2019 Trophy have described today\u2019s finals at Kamuzu Stadium as a giant step in the development of sports at grassroots level.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the organising committee, Egnazio Libwaloh, said apart from exciting netball and football matches, several other activities have been lined up to entertain sports lovers.<\/p>\n<p>Libwalo cited a football match between the Blantyre City Councilors, including Mayor Noel Chalamanda and city council staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day will be full of fan and I am urging people to come in their multitudes to bear witness to the exceptional skills of our boys and girls in football and netball. I also invite city residents to come out and watch their Mayor play football,\u201d Libwaloh, who is also Chairman for the Malawi Schools Sports Association, said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the trophy will be paraded prior to the commencement of the day\u2019s activities expected to be presided over by Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Minister, Henry Mussa.<\/p>\n<p>Libwaloh said despite some glitches that blighted the event tournament like age cheating, small pockets of violence and late registration, the tournament has largely progressed well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy that as the tournament is coming to an end, we have something to show for it. A lot of talent has been unearthed and we are asking city residents to come in their large numbers to see for themselves,\u201d Libwaloh said.<\/p>\n<p>The winner in football will get K400,000 with the runner up pocketing K300,000 while in netball, K300,000 will go the winner and the runner up will get K200, 000.<\/p>\n<p>Two semifinalists in football will get K200, 000 each while K120, 000 will go to the netball teams.<\/p>\n<p>Quarterfinalists in football will be rewarded with K100,000 and K70, 000 for the two netball teams that reached this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Top scorers in both football and netball will also be given prizes together with the best player.<\/p>\n<p>In the football finals, Naizi Primary School face Makata Primary School and in netball, Mbayani Primary School take on Chilomoni LEA School.<\/p>\n<p>Companies like Bata Shoe Company, KIPS, Into-Sport, First Merchant Bank and Dairiboard, among others, have made various donations to support the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Presentation of the trophy will take place at Blantyre City Council\u2019s Civic Offices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Organizers of the Blantyre City Mayors\u2019 Trophy have described today\u2019s finals at Kamuzu Stadium as a giant step in the development of sports at grassroots level.
