{"id":37580,"date":"2016-12-16T11:55:55","date_gmt":"2016-12-16T09:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=37580"},"modified":"2016-12-16T11:55:55","modified_gmt":"2016-12-16T09:55:55","slug":"illovo-partners-operation-smile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/12\/16\/illovo-partners-operation-smile\/","title":{"rendered":"Illovo partners Operation Smile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sugar producer, Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited has called for joint efforts between business entities and health sector to alleviate the plight of people with cleft lips, palates and facial deformities.<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that while such cases are on the rise in Malawi, little is done to provide material and financial support to health organisations and government to help those affected.<\/p>\n<p>Illovo Malawi Employees Benefits Manager, Benadetta Yafete, made the call Wednesday when the company donated 23 bales of sugar to Operation Smile\u2014a charity organisation\u2014 which provides surgery to persons with cleft lips and palates.<\/p>\n<p>Operation Smile is present in Malawi and other 60 countries providing medical care and training to health officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that the donation, we will reach out the vulnerable through Operation Smile,\u201d Yafete said.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Operation Smile Country Manager, Ibrahim Nthalika, hailed Illovo for the gesture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe provide these services for free and within the same context, patients and their guardians need to eat, and this sugar will solve the nutrition challenges,\u201d Nthalika explained.<\/p>\n<p>He said since its establishment in Malawi in 2012, the organisation has provided free surgery to 723 Malawians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese medical programmes have also helped 314 health care professionals in Malawi and 220,000 free surgical procedures on children globally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sugar producer, Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited has called for joint efforts between business entities and health sector to alleviate the plight of people with cleft lips, palates and facial deformities.
