Do you think all the coaches who have attended this course can fail to lead the Flames to greater heights? We do not think so. We need to be given the chance,” said Mbolembole.

Concurring with Mbolembole, former Flames captains, Meke Mwase and Patrick Mabedi, said disregarding local coaches for the Flames job would be discouraging and demoralising.

Mwase, who had been coaching Swaziland Premier League side Mbabane Swallows until recently, said not all coaches have been given the chance to train the Flames.

The Former Big Bullets and Wanderers defence pillar went on to say that the local coaches are now as qualified as their foreign counterparts, hence the need for Fam to show confidence in its own people.

“I am challenging Fam to try me on the coaching role. Let us not forget that it was a local coach who took the Flames to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola six years ago. There are several of us who have matured in this profession and we are only waiting for our turn to lead the Flames,” Mwase said.

But Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, said in going for a foreign coach, the association is not saying it has completely disregarded the local coaches.

In reaction to former Flames Coach Kinnah Phiri’s outbursts on Fam’s intention to hire a foreigner for Flames job, Nyamilandu was quoted by The Nation as saying Fam wants to build on the capacity of other local coaches to take over the Flames through the hiring of a foreign coach.

“The foreign coach will help in grooming the locals.
