{"id":37382,"date":"2016-12-13T11:55:52","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T09:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=37382"},"modified":"2016-12-13T11:55:54","modified_gmt":"2016-12-13T09:55:54","slug":"oxfam-budgets-k1-2-billion-to-enhance-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/12\/13\/oxfam-budgets-k1-2-billion-to-enhance-production\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxfam budgets K1.2 billion to enhance production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oxfam plans to spend K1.2 billion in the next two years on farm inputs to be distributed to disadvantaged households in some parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Oxfam Deputy Country Director, Elias Khozombwe, said the initiative is aimed at assisting government efforts to enhance food security.<\/p>\n<p>Oxfarm is working with Centre for Alternatives for Victimised Women and Children (Cavwoc) and Girls Empowerment Network (Genet) in the programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we appreciate the gesture that the government is doing in assisting the vulnerable people in the country, we decided to come in since the number of people affected with drought and floods due to climate change is going up,\u201d Khozombwe said.<\/p>\n<p>He further said even though the government is distributing coupons to vulnerable people, not everybody will benefit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have, therefore, put aside money that will be used to buy farm inputs that will be distributed to those who have been left out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cavwoc Programme Manager, Maxwell Kaliati, said a committee led by the village development committee will identify the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is happening is that those who are registered under Fisp are not eligible to benefit from our programme, that is why every beneficiary is buying the seeds right here,\u201d Kaliati said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oxfam plans to spend K1.2 billion in the next two years on farm inputs to be distributed to disadvantaged households in some parts of the country.
