It was a tough battle at Blantyre Cultural Centre on Saturday as of Kajive Season III fought for a place in the top 10 during Southern Region auditions.<\/p>\n
It was either dance to impress or flop. From choreography to costumes, originality to creativity, some of the groups showed lack of seriousness and attracted booing from the audience whereas others showed how badly they needed the K2 million at stake, and received a standing ovation.<\/p>\n
Out of the 27 groups that registered, only 10 had a chance to be selected to the regional finals.<\/p>\n
Indeed, three judges\u2014 Times TV presenters Sharon Chirwa, Yankho Seunda and producer Kenny Clips\u2014 had a tough time deciding who would make it into the top 10.<\/p>\n
Three groups out of the 27 were automatically disqualified for not showing up and Danger Crew, Ikuba Crew, Automatrix, Floor Steppers, Mchinji Boys, Shooting Stars, Amazing Dancers Crew, Mdubs Dope Crew, Soweto Boys and Meri Metrix won the judges\u2019 heart.<\/p>\n
Chief judge, Kenny Klips, said even if they were given a second chance to choose the best 10 out of the 25 groups that made it to the auditions, they would still choose the groups they settled for.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe chose the best out of the groups we had,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The groups were judged based on coordination, choreography, transition, creativity and originality.<\/p>\n
Klips, who has been a judge for the mega dance show from season one, said the competition was getting stiff.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the sponsors to the competition, things have really improved but some of the dancers are not serious. They think that they can just be handed K2 million in a blink of an eye,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
