Former National Junior Welterweight champion, Osgood Kayuni, and fellow Malawi Defence Force boxer, Salimu Chazama, will renew their rivalry when they meet in an eight round non-title contest on January 1.<\/p>\n
The first meeting of the two ended in controversy as Kayuni was declared winner on split decision.<\/p>\n
Meka Boxing Promotions Managing Director, Gome Mwandira, said both boxers had signed contract and committed themselves to the contest to be staged at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the fight that boxing fans in Lilongwe have been waiting for. They would have met recently under a different promoter but the fight fell through because of contractual disagreements. As a stable we are happy that we have managed to tie them down for this fight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kayuni confirmed that he had indeed signed a contract to face Chazama for the second time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time, I want to silence him for good. I have to win convincingly to show him that we are not at the same level even though we are in the same weight category,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kayuni has managed 28 career wins that include nine knockouts, three draws and six defeats.<\/p>\n
Chazama said he was equally ready for the showdown in his quest to avenge defeat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the fight that I have been longing for. I was robbed of victory during our first meeting. I cannot wait for January 1 to put the record straight that judgement in the last bout was biased. I want<\/p>\n
to win through a knockout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old-boxer has fought 27 bouts, winning 21, losing four times and drawing twice.<\/p>\n
Promoter Mwandira said he was working on the supporting fights to curtain raise the New Year\u2019s Day contest.<\/p>\n
