I am not even worried at all. If I had indeed been beaten I would have conceded defeat without a fuss. But I don’t understand the criteria they [the judges] used in declaring Kayuni the winner,” he said.

“Nevertheless, he [Kayuni] has played well today simply because he has managed to finish all the rounds. He has maintained his style while improving on his technique here and there. But I do not see him playing better like he has done,” the Lilongwe-based boxer explained.

Promoter Bagidadi Mwamlima was left thrilled with the turn up of sports lovers at the event.

“Boxing in the region was on the death bed because of verbal wars between promoters and boxing associations. I was receiving some threats because I wanted to re-organise boxing. That is why I had to take a break. But now that all disagreements have been resolved, boxing is back to life here in the North,” he said.

Malani Kayuni outshone Wilson ‘Shasha’ Masamba via razor-thin total cards of 230-229 in a tight eight-round non-title bout at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu on Sunday.
