Dwangwa United Captain Dennis Katchire has been convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl.<\/p>\n
Katchire was on Friday found guilty before Nkhunga Magistrate\u2019s Court in Nkhotakota District.<\/p>\n
Nkhunga Police Spokesperson, Labani Makalani, confirmed the development.<\/p>\n
According to Makalani, the court heard that the convict defiled the Standard Eight girl on four occasions following a relationship that developed between them.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is alleged that Katchire was in love with the girl and he used to invite her to the team\u2019s hostel during class lessons,\u201d Makalani explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn 29 November, the girl absconded classes and visited the player at the hostel where she was defiled before proceeding to her home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s mother, however, confronted the daughter over her abscondment of the classes; prompting the daughter to reveal the affair.<\/p>\n
In mitigation, Katchire pleaded for lenience, saying he was a first offender and that he did not know that defiling the girl, he was in love with, was a crime.<\/p>\n
Passing the sentence, First Grade Magistrate, Kingsley Buleya, said consent was immaterial considering the age of the girl and that the player took advantage of his fame to defile the pupil.<\/p>\n
