The Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development has replaced its Spokesperson, Nations Msowoya, with a Public Relations Officer (PRO), Alfred Kutengule, with effect from Thursday.<\/p>\n
Msowoya was regarded as one of the country\u2019s best public spokespersons due to his efficiency when it came to responding to the media\u2019s queries and this has won him several accolades in relation to his job.<\/p>\n
In a memo to all Principal Secretaries (PSs) and Heads of Departments in different ministries, Secretary to Treasury, Ronald Mangani, says Kutengule has replaced Msowoya who has since been assigned other duties.<\/p>\n
In a follow-up interview yesterday, Mangani described Msowoya\u2019s removal as nothing unusual.<\/p>\n
Rumour has been circulating that Msowoya might have been removed as Treasury spokesperson due to his frankness when dealing with the media.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe replacement is normal, as is normal with any movement in the civil service,\u201d Mangani said.<\/p>\n
We did not manage to get Msowoya\u2019s position on his removal as his phone went unanswered yesterday.<\/p>\n
For the past few years when he served as Treasury publicist, Msowoya endeared himself with the media for his aptitude in responding to their queries.<\/p>\n
However, some stakeholders observed that this might not augur well with government authorities who would not want to release correct and relevant information to the media.<\/p>\n
According to observers, at this time when the country\u2019s economy continues to struggle to get right, authorities would want to have a Treasury spokesperson who will be able to hide information that will paint government\u2019s economic agenda in bad light.<\/p>\n
