The others may have been rejected for reasons such as quality issues; we aim to provide our viewers with the best videos, so unfortunately they didn’t meet the criteria,” Maredi said.

T h e M a r k e t i n g a n d Programming Specialist added that they do not accept outdated content, unless if it were a major hit.

“So if it is more than three months old we won’t accept it unless if it can be played in our thematic shows like House party (house music, party music etc) or Sound system (reggae, dancehall etc) provided they pass our quality/ standard criteria,” she said.

Meanwhile, Trace Africa has said that the viewing committee met last week and they accepted the country’s music videos of Theo Thomson (Magic and Wings), Good Tender – Bucci & Charley, Reggae Is In My View – Trumel, Disappear – Bucci and Angelina by Dali.

Maredi has since said the committee is yet to review some of the country’s music videos which were already submitted.

MultiChoice Malawi Sales and Marketing Manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the approval of some of the country’s music videos show there is progress.

“We are very happy because we got some feedback from Trace Africa on why some videos were rejected because this is what we agreed with Trace Africa team to give us feedback wherever necessary,” Nyirenda said.

He said the feedback was necessary in that it will help artists to improve on their music videos.

“Our target is to get at least 20 music videos on the channel by the end of the year. We believe with this, more artists will come out with their music videos,” Nyirenda said.

He further appealed to artists to bring their music videos to MultiChoice offices and that the music videos should be in HD file (MP4), flask disc or DVD.

“It’s not a complicated process, we have one page which they will need to sign to give consent to the channel and then MultiChoice Malawi will send the music videos to the channels for air play,” he said.

Trace Africa channel 326 launched on DStv in September with aim of creating opportunities and dedicated for southern African artists to showcase their music videos on the channel.

In a drive that was aimed at coaxing more artists to submit their music videos, MultiChoice Malawi extended the campaign to this year’s Lake of Stars Festival held at Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay which saw the presence of Trace Africa officials.

Nyirenda said the objective of Trace Africa officials trip to Malawi was to collect the country’s music videos but also to appreciate local content.

Newly established Trace Africa channel has said it is ready to air more content from Malawi and other southern African countries.
