Former national lightweight champion, Crispin Moliyati\u2019s quest to reclaim the title ended in a loss to unheralded Yohane Banda on a unanimous points\u2019 decision at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Banda was ranked as an outsider prior to the fight, but he defied all odds to remain unbeaten in the professional ranks after reducing Moliyati to a journeyman.<\/p>\n
The budding boxer landed strong jabs and combinations that frustrated Moliyati as he was kept at the bay throughout the contest.<\/p>\n
The defeat marked a nightmare for Moliyati\u2019s camp, No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions, as the stable\u2019s other boxer, Chikondi Makawa, recently lost a middleweight contest amid controversy.<\/p>\n
Banda said Moliyati should be grateful to lose on points.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was planning to knock him down in the last two rounds, but it did not work out. Anyway, it was a clear victory. Nobody disputed the result,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Commenting on professional boxing\u2019s Whatsapps group, Moliyati, 26, conceded defeat.<\/p>\n
\u201cCongratulations to the new champion. He fought well. I know where I missed the fight and I promise to bounce back strongly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Banda, 20, has improved his record to nine wins and a draw whereas Moliyati\u2019s record has dropped to 28 wins, four defeats and three draws.<\/p>\n
Meka Boxing Promotions organised the bill and the stable\u2019s Managing Director, Gome Mwandira, was excited with the performance of the boxers and the patronage.<\/p>\n
