{"id":36249,"date":"2016-11-25T10:08:27","date_gmt":"2016-11-25T08:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=36249"},"modified":"2016-11-25T10:08:28","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T08:08:28","slug":"sparc-systems-pumps-k1-million-in-mayors-trophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/25\/sparc-systems-pumps-k1-million-in-mayors-trophy\/","title":{"rendered":"Sparc Systems pumps K1 million in Mayor\u2019s Trophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The return of the Mayor\u2019s Trophy in Blantyre City continues to draw support from the corporate world as Sparc Systems on Wednesday donated K1 million towards the grassroots sports event.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre City Mayor, Noel Chalamanda, said Sparc Systems\u2019 donation was timely as the competition is set to wind up on December 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Sparc has done is very helpful to the government and Blantyre City in uplifting the social life of our people through sports. The specific target is our youngsters who will benefit by having their skills honed in both football and netball. This gesture by Sparc will also help set up a platform where coaches and officials can scout talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chalamanda said K5 million has, so far, been collected from well-wishers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe support has been overwhelming. Of course, we are waiting for the well-wishers to honour the remaining pledges. But the door remains open to anyone who still wishes to support the initiative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sparc Systems Managing Director, Wisely Phiri, said as a corporate citizen of Blantyre, the company decided to make the donation because of the important role the tournament used to play decades ago in producing talent for the country\u2019s clubs and national teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Sparc Systems, we are proud of our being a citizen of Blantyre. We have grown beyond the country\u2019s borders but Blantyre remains our base. Blantyre City Mayor\u2019s Trophy is the future of our national teams. This is the breeding ground for talent. Our donation is a noble cause because we also want to give players an opportunity to interact outside classes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on, another of the City\u2019s corporate citizens, Footprints, also donated K350,000 towards the same event.<\/p>\n<p>The firm\u2019s Managing Director, Mathews Ngwak, said it was part of their corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Other companies that have donated money and equipment towards the trophy include Chibuku Products, Plem Construction, Rab Processors and Dairiboard Malawi<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The return of the Mayor\u2019s Trophy in Blantyre City continues to draw support from the corporate world as Sparc Systems on Wednesday donated K1 million towards the grassroots sports event.
