{"id":36209,"date":"2016-11-24T11:31:57","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T09:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=36209"},"modified":"2016-11-24T11:31:58","modified_gmt":"2016-11-24T09:31:58","slug":"must-tackles-water-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/24\/must-tackles-water-problems\/","title":{"rendered":"Must tackles water problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) has sunk three boreholes at its campus as one way of curbing water problems which at some point made the authorities close the institution for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Early this month, students protested against lack of water on the campus due to failure of water pumps of the two boreholes that the institution had.<\/p>\n<p>According to Must Public Relations Officer, James Mphande, the institution rectified the problem within a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a week when the school was closed, we drilled one borehole and students returned to campus. Since then we have drilled two more boreholes and will soon have five working boreholes. We have also bought 20, 5,000 litre water tanks as reservoirs and have been placed on campus with majority of them in hostels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mphande was quick to say some of the measures they have put in place are short term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the long term we expect to be linked to the Blantyre Water Board Likhubula Project but also to build a dam near the campus.
