The future of Southern Region Footbal l Association (SRFA) Premier Division side, Bvumbwe Research, remains uncertain as government has withdrawn sponsorship.<\/p>\n
A letter addressed to the club\u2019s Chaiperson, Senior Deputy Director of Agricultural Research Services, Martin Mwale, states that Bvumbwe Research Station had withdrawn all kinds of assistance, including vehicles and fuel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis painful decision has been arrived at as a way of cutting costs because the station is experiencing financial challenges such that the cost of vehicle maintenance is just unbearable. We will always remember the good times we have had and we wish you all the best as you continue participating in the league,\u201d Mwale wrote.<\/p>\n
Club General Secretary, Majidu Mponda, said the loss of the sponsorship had crippled the team, which is unable to fulfil fixtures.<\/p>\n
He said efforts to request SRFA secretariat to withhold the team\u2019s games until they identify another sponsor, hit a snag.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt first we used to make contributions among ourselves and other well-wishers, but we have now run out of money,\u201d Mponda said.<\/p>\n
SRFA Vice-General Secretary, Kingsley Simbeye, confirmed that the team\u2019s request for their games to be put on hold was not granted.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe said no because this would delay the league. They will continue forfeiting games. But we sympathise with them and we are appealing to well-wishers to come to their rescue,\u201d Simbeye said.<\/p>\n
The club is currently on position 13 on the log table with 38 points from 26 games.<\/p>\n
