{"id":36091,"date":"2016-11-23T09:47:56","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T07:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=36091"},"modified":"2016-11-23T10:26:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T08:26:50","slug":"man-jailed-14-years-for-defiling-niece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/23\/man-jailed-14-years-for-defiling-niece\/","title":{"rendered":"Man jailed 14 years for defiling niece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mzuzu First Grade Magistrate\u2019s Court last week sentenced a 29-yearold man to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling his niece.<\/p>\n<p>Mzuzu Police spokesperson, Cecilia Mfune, said the court heard that the convict (name withheld) was working as a tobacco tenant at Jombo while living with his brother-in-law who is the victim\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>She said on August 8 the convict was left to look after the house and the children as the parents went to visit a sick relative at Bwengu.<\/p>\n<p>Mfune said in the middle of the night, the convict defiled the girl and the issue only came to light in October because of a sexually transmitted infection which the victim was diagnosed with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe convict pleaded not guilty but the court was convinced through the evidence given by four witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn her judgment, First Grade Magistrate Sophie Chimaliro said the offence committed by the convict is a felony which attracts a penalty of life imprisonment.
