Malawi national football team flies to Egypt today for an international friendly match against the Pharaohs on Monday next week.<\/p>\n
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) will cater for the Flames\u2019 travel expenses.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi of Malawi (Fam) general secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, confirmed yesterday that EFA had made a commitment to cover the Flames\u2019 travel expenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey asked us to submit the names of 25 members of the squad that will travel to Egypt. We submitted the names and the team will leave through Ethiopian Airlines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nyirenda, however, could not be drawn to reveal the overall cost of the Flames\u2019 travel to Egypt.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe responsibility of the air tickets is in the hands of the EFA. As Fam, we will only take care of the team\u2019s training allowances and game bonuses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Flames captain Joseph Kamwendo, said the Flames were in confident mood ahead of the Egypt friendly and the Zimbabwe match.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe match against Zimbabwe is very important for us to win and start this campaign on a high note. The group in which we are is tricky. Though others feel it is easier, it is not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Flames recently received a boost ahead of the qualifiers after winning the Cosafa Cup Plate Division following a 1-0 victory over Zambia in the final last weekend.<\/p>\n
The game will be the last before Malawi plays Zimbabwe in 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 13.<\/p>\n
Apart from Zimbabwe, the other teams in Malawi\u2019s group are Guinea and Swaziland.<\/p>\n
To qualify for the 2017 Gabon finals, the Flames have to top the group.<\/p>\n
After playing Zimbabwe, Malawi will face Swaziland in Mbabane in September.<\/p>\n
The Flames\u2019 local squad has been boosted with the inclusion of foreign-based players; Kamwendo, Esau Kanyenda, Atusaye Nyondo, Limbikani Mzava, Frank Banda, Robin Ngalande, Charles Swini, Gerald Phiri Jnr and Chimango Kayira.<\/p>\n
