Blantyre-based musician Mayeso Thomas on Friday launched his second album The Magic of You <\/em>at Motel Paradise in Blantyre.<\/p>\n

Despite having the presence of crowd pullers Black Missionaries, the show failed to pull a huge audience.<\/p>\n

But the few that came, heaped praise on Thomas describing him as a good artist, who needs to be given all the support.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that when such shows come up, people do not give them a chance. But he is a good musician and needs all the support. I have enjoyed his performance,\u201d a fan Bright Phiri said.<\/p>\n

Another fan Gerald Joseph said people should not focus on the name for now but they should sample Thomas\u2019 music.<\/p>\n

The youthful artist debuted with Chikhalidwe <\/em>which he admits did not do well on the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy debut album to say the truth did not do well and the biggest challenge that I experienced was that I did not promote it fully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Thomas bemoaned the low patronage during the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is talent out there but many upcoming artists lack the exposure. Many do not have funding to go in the studio and record their songs. And to make matters worse many lack the exposure. I tried my best to come up with this launch and I am happy it has happened,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

His second album has eight songs which were recorded in Blantyre at Wakankhunda Multimedia by Dickson Kankhunda.<\/p>\n

Thomas describes the album as powerful saying it has songs with rich messages.<\/p>\n

He adds that the main messages in the album include love, justice and poverty.<\/p>\n

The Magic of You album has songs such as Nice Love, Good Girl, Kale Langa<\/em>, and Ndiziwitse<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Kankhunda as the producer was part of the team that backed Thomas during the show and he played the keyboards.<\/p>\n

The sound on the night was good and the band that backed Thomas did not disappoint.<\/p>\n

It was however clear that despite embracing Thomas\u2019 music on the night, people were longing for Black Missionaries\u2019 performance.<\/p>\n

The reggae group stormed the stage in the early hours of Saturday and did not perform for long as they usually do during their own shows.<\/p>\n

Before their act, Anthony \u2018Mr Cool\u2019 Makondetsa entered the audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not our show; we have come to support Mayeso Thomas. He is an upcoming artist so I call upon you to give him all the support,\u201d said Makondetsa, who dropped songs such as Mu Yuda <\/em>and Mbumba Ya Abraham<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Blacks\u2019 lead vocalist Anjiru Fumulani also added to what Makondetsa had said earlier that Thomas needed people\u2019s support to progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have worked with him in his previous project and we are supporting him once again this time. He is an artist, who is taking the right direction and has passion for music. As Blacks we will always support upcoming artists and this is why we are here today,\u201d Anjiru said.<\/p>\n

The reggae group offered songs from their Kuimba <\/em>albums before bowing out at 3:30am.<\/p>\n

This however, did not go down well with some fans who were looking forward to long performance from the reggae group.<\/p>\n

Some actually went on to shout that the group has started giving people a raw deal.<\/p>\n

But in replay keyboardist Chizondi Fumulani told one of the fans that they were allocated time for their performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not our show, we just came to support Mayeso Thomas and we were given time and we have performed the agreed time,\u201d Chizondi said.<\/p>\n
