{"id":35464,"date":"2016-11-14T11:22:16","date_gmt":"2016-11-14T09:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=35464"},"modified":"2016-11-14T11:22:16","modified_gmt":"2016-11-14T09:22:16","slug":"saulos-chilima-drums-up-support-for-war-vets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/14\/saulos-chilima-drums-up-support-for-war-vets\/","title":{"rendered":"Saulos Chilima drums up support for war vets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President, Saulos Chilima, on Friday called on Malawians to support veterans of the First and Second world wars, saying their sacrifice could not be appreciated enough.<\/p>\n<p>Chilima was speaking at Lilongwe Golf Club where he graced the Veterans\u2019 Charity Golf Tournament organised by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) to raise funds for the welfare of the veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe enjoy this peace today because these people, we call veterans, sacrificed a lot but although we call them veterans today, that\u2019s not what they were on the battle field. They risked their lives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chilima said the golf tourney was only one small token of appreciation to the veterans\u2019 noble cause.<\/p>\n<p>He challenged Malawians to do more in form of donations to support the day-to-day welfare of the veterans.<\/p>\n<p>The event also included other fundraising activities such as sale of poppy ribbons and a raffle draw.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President, Saulos Chilima, on Friday called on Malawians to support veterans of the First and Second world wars, saying their sacrifice could not be appreciated enough.
