For the first time in four years, Sports Complex Simba women\u2019s hockey side have been crowned FMB 11-Aside champions after ending Genetrix Ladies\u2019 dominance.<\/p>\n
However, it was a familiar story in the men\u2019s category as Genetrix men\u2019s team retained the championship for the fourth successive time.<\/p>\n
The two sides were crowned champions at Hockey Stadium, formerly Upper Stadium, in Blantyre on Saturday.<\/p>\n
In the ladies\u2019 division, Simba finished with 15 points whereas Genetrix claimed second position on 14 points.<\/p>\n
Scorpions finished third with 11 points while Nyala were on fourth position with eight points. Braves anchored the table with seven points.<\/p>\n
Simba\u2019s Coach, Caroline Mitochi, said after a four-year drought, they deserved the championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe worked hard and we will continue doing so. Next year, we will come hard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s division, Genetrix continued with their dominance when they finished on first place with 20 points. Nyala were second with 14 points whereas Scorpions finished third with 13 points.<\/p>\n
Cobbe Sticks ended on fourth position with seven points.<\/p>\n
There was no joy for Braves\u2019 men who anchored the table just like their female counterparts.<\/p>\n
FMB\u2019s Marketing Manager, Widdey Nsona, assured Hockey Association of Malawi (Ham) of continued sponsorship to the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cHockey Association of Malawi is taking the sport in the right direction. We have seen the stadium project as well as the formation of the national team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ham\u2019s General Secretary, Chigo Thindwa, hailed FMB for its continued support.<\/p>\n
