Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Executive Secretary, George Jana, has been re-elected African Union Sports Council Vice Chairperson during elections held in Namibia last weekend.<\/p>\n
Jana had for almost a year been doubling as the body\u2019s Vice Chairperson following the death of Mvuso Mbebe.<\/p>\n
Jana said he was humbled to have earned the trust of AUSC delegates to continue serving the body which is responsible for Region Five Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am really humbled that together with my colleagues, I have earned delegates\u2019 trust. It shows that they are pleased with what they have seen in us. Basically, I will continue what I was doing. It is a question of matters at hand. My job entails providing assistance to countries within the region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jana also thanked Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa, for endorsing him to contest for the post.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo contest, one needs an endorsement from the serving Minister of Sports and I am delighted that the minister endorsed my name. It gives me impetus to serve wholeheartedly at AUSC and also here at Sports Council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Delegates to the assembly met to adopt changes in composition and structure of the body.<\/p>\n
Following the changes, the body has a Chairman, Vice Chairman and the newly-created post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), previously known as General Manager.<\/p>\n
Two more posts have been created with one responsible for sports development and the other in charge of finance and marketing.<\/p>\n
Vetumbuavi Veii of Namibia was elected Chairperson for sports development whereas Lawrence Mthethwa of Swaziland will head the Finance and Marketing Commission. Antonio Gomes will head the Sports Development Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
