{"id":35305,"date":"2016-11-10T12:16:45","date_gmt":"2016-11-10T10:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=35305"},"modified":"2016-11-10T12:16:46","modified_gmt":"2016-11-10T10:16:46","slug":"donald-trump-trumps-clinton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/11\/10\/donald-trump-trumps-clinton\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump trumps Clinton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Trump will become the 45th US president after a stunning victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican nominee defied pre-election polling to claim swing states, winning the key battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>He told cheering supporters that Americans must now unite and \u201cbind the wounds of division\u201d, after a gruelling, acrimonious campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Global markets fell sharply at the news but later recovered somewhat.<\/p>\n<p>Outgoing President Barack Obama has congratulated Trump and has invited him to a meeting at the White House on Thursday to discuss the transition.<\/p>\n<p>Around the world, leaders and the media have been reacting to America\u2019s election upset.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s Foreign Minister said the outcome would make things \u201cmore difficult\u2019, with US foreign policy \u201cless predictable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin \u2013 for whom Trump has voiced support but who Democrats accused of election meddling \u2013 said he hoped ties could improve from their current \u201ccritical condition\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union said close cooperation with the US was the only way to deal with \u201cunprecedented challenges\u201d around the world.<\/p>\n<p>As poll counting went late into the night, it was Trump\u2019s shock victory in Wisconsin that put him over the 270 out of 538 electoral college votes needed to win the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Minutes after Clinton called him to concede, the US president-elect took to the stage with his family at his victory rally in a New York hotel ballroom and paid tribute to his rival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called for Americans to \u201ccome together as one united people\u201d and pledged to be president \u201cfor all Americans\u201d, after a campaign that saw him hit out at Muslims, Hispanics and other minority groups.<\/p>\n<p>The real estate tycoon, former reality TV star and political newcomer, who was universally ridiculed when he declared his candidacy in June last year, said the work of his \u201cgreat movement\u201d was just beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a movement comprised of Americans from all races, religions, backgrounds and beliefs, who want and expect our government to serve the people.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Trump will become the 45th US president after a stunning victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
